Is the product exactly the same in the US as it is in Canada?

I attended the FAAN Food Allergy Conference in fall 2010 and according to what I learned about the Food Allergy Labeling and Consumer Protection Act, highly refined oils containing even the top eight allergens are NOT required to be listed on the label.

This is frightening and obviously Minute Maid/Coca Cola is taking full advantage of this loophole in labeling requirements. Here is additional information about the “protection” act http://www.fns.usda.gov/fdd/facts/nutrition/foodallergenfactsheet.pdf,the part about highly refined oils is on the second page.

From what I understand, labeling requirements are much more strict in Canada, which is why you’ll see it on the Canadian labels and website.

I agree! I have a right to know what is in my daughters food and drink. I would be negligent with her peanut allergy if I risked her life so what gives them the right? Your right they actually do not have that right here in the states. The FDA should be warned and the juice recalled if the labels are not accurate.

I agree with you, Elizabeth, but I also think that the added health benefits promised with the addition of negligible amounts of other foods are just a marketing ploy. I like orange juice, but it’s mostly just a sugar delivery system with a bit of natural vitamin C that sells for about two bucks a quart. We can probably do more for our hearts by drinking plain water instead of taking on extra calories with orange juice. Thanks for being so alert. Keep up the good work.
