Last year, the project my son and his friend prepared for Science Fair qualified for the London District Science & Technology Fair. The project won both an Honourable Mention in Life Sciences and the Faculty of Education Award, which award included a $100 prize. My son has a very generous nature: Since age 10, instead of receiving gifts from his friends for his birthday, he asked that they buy shoes and boots to donate to the Memorial Boys & Girls Club and bring along any used shoes they have to donate. He’s a great person, and his impulse when he won the Science Fair prize was to donate his prize money.
After a little discussion, I agreed he could donate it, but suggested that he use it to create a prize for next year’s Science Fair with matching money from Onespot Allergy. According to the organizers of the Science Fair, this had never happened before. We created a health and safety award for an outstanding project in any category that focuses on health & safety in the home.
It was my pleasure to attend the awards ceremony last weekend and to award the prize. The winning project compared the cleaning power of hand sanitizer to that of soap and water (soap and water was better). Inspired by my son’s generosity, Onespot Allergy will continue to fund this award for years to come.
