I was asked to look at ViSalus shakes recently by a distributor, who recommended them as gluten free and allergy friendly. I’ve written previously about gluten free and hypoallergenic liquid nutrition, which you can read about by clicking here.
The ViSalus shakes contain milk and soy. I was surprised to see on the website that it’s made on equipment that also processes several other allergens, specifically eggs, milk, soybeans, wheat, shellfish, fish oil, peanut flavor, and tree nuts. You can view that information by clicking here.
It concerns me that in this brochure, the company states that this product is gluten free and lactose free. Because it’s made on equipment that also processes wheat, it may contain traces of wheat and gluten. I would not recommend it as gluten free. Because it contains milk and is made on equipment that processes milk, I would not recommend it as lactose free.
Milk and soy are actually in the ingredients of this product. I’m concerned that six other priority allergens are used in products made on the same equipment. There also seem to be a lot of corn derived ingredients in the shakes as well.
If you’re considering using this product and you have food allergies, gluten intolerance, or Celiac disease, please read the label carefully and make inquiries with the company to ensure it’s safe for you.
