Spotted: Peanut Containing Candy Display Inside Drinks Fridge At Mac’s Convenience Store

Published by One Spot Allergy on March 6, 2015

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups Chilled Display At Mac'sI was at a Mac’s Convenience Store the other day. When I opened the fridge and reached in to get a drink, I was very startled to find that a rack of Reese’s peanut butter cups was mounted on the inside of the fridge door, which was right next to the side of my face. It simply wasn’t on my radar to expect peanut containing candy to be in the drinks fridge, and I expect that a surprise product placement like that could make peanut allergic individuals uncomfortable, since their allergen is right next to their face in wrapped packages.

It makes sense for Hershey’s to try to catch the attention of customers who were looking at the drinks rather than at Reese’s peanut butter cups on the candy racks, and a chilled peanut butter cup probably tastes great. Having said that, it was startling for me to find them unexpectedly in the fridge right next to my face, and I expect peanut allergic Mac’s customers would feel even more aversion to this product placement.
