Hand Sanitizers That Contain Nut Oils

Published by One Spot Allergy on March 24, 2020

*By Karen Blue of Chemurgy and Allergens blog and Avoiding Allergens blog

Yesterday I was sent an article by Karen Blue of Chemurgy and Allergens blog, which in light of the COVID 19 outbreak and an influx of homemade and distillery made hand sanitizers, is very important to share.  Karen expressed concern because a lot of these products are emergency supplies, with fast track production, and release.  Karen writes:

Hand Sanitizer
Squeaky Clean Hand Sanitizer
Effectively cleanse and condition hands on-the-go with Megababe Squeaky Clean Hand Sanitizer. The alcohol-based, non-drying gel kills 99% of germs and includes sweet almond and marula oils [I hadn’t heard of that nut oil] to leave skin soft and hydrated, plus aloe to soothe. The naturally scented formula is light and citrusy with notes of bergamot and orange. Toss this pocket-sized gel in your purse, desk drawer, car or gym bag to cleanse hands anytime, anywhere.

Hand Sanitizer
Fruity Strawberry Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer Spray
Sweet, fruity and moisturizing hand sanitizer with Glycerin. Almond Oil, Vitamin E and Aloe Vera keep the skin moisturized while 70% alcohol is known to kill germs.

Hand sanitizers newly produced to fight COVID 19
Some distileries have switched from making drinking spirits to hand sanitizers. Some of these products that will be shipped to medical clinics contain coconut oil and/ or almond oil.

Hand Sanitizer
Silverback Distillery producing hand sanitizer (article)
It’s a fairly simple process, general manager Abby Riggleman explained: Combine distillate with almond or coconut oil, so it’s less harsh on the skin, and add a bit of essential oil for a nice scent. The hard part for would-be at-home sanitizer producers is making sure the alcohol content is high enough.

Copper Spirit Distillery is making hand sanitizer (article)
From their distilled alcohol “waste,” the Kabantsovs will be providing denatured alcohol sanitizer to islanders by donation (there’s a limited amount) and Candice will be making hand sanitizer with aloe vera gel, almond oil and some essential oils. “We produce 90 to 95 per cent alcohol, which allows wiggle room for you to use aloe and dilute down,” she explained.

Hand Sanitizer
Nelson Co. distillery making hand sanitizer (article)
Silverback Distillery is asking for donations of bottles, as well as Aloe Vera or almond oil to help with keeping up with demand for the hand sanitizer.
